
I give the novel 5 out of 5 stars and would recommend it to anyone looking for a magical yet heart wrenching family drama. The Prince of Tides was a page turner, keeping me guessing right up to the end with all the insane scenarios this family wound up in. Also, most keyshops have buyer’s protection programs to guarantee a refund in case. We recommend reading keyshops’ and sellers’ customer reviews first. Seriously though–somebody gets eaten alive. For instance, Weaving Tides Global means it can be activated in any country, Weaving Tides Europe only in Europe, and Weaving Tides Japan in Japan only. There is also an explicit rape scene (against both male and female victims) as well as plenty of gruesome violence.

There are multiple scenes of child and spousal abuse as well as neglect, plus a particularly tearful scene involving a stillbirth. Several of the characters live with mental illness (anxiety, depression, schizophrenia). Speaking of–there are LOTS of trigger warnings for this novel as it deals with some pretty heavy subjects. I couldn’t help but love the grit and darkness in his words. On the other hand, he’s doesn’t mince words when it comes to describing the terror and abuse faced by the family. Conroy truly has a way with words, weaving the scenery of the family’s island home into a fantastical place filled with wonder and magic. The writing style was a phenomenal mix of beautiful poetry, sarcastic humor, and heartrending horror.

Whether it’s to haul a porpoise cross-country, bury their frozen baby sister, overcome hateful racism on the football field, or fight off a home invader with black widow spiders, these siblings care deeply for one another and always stand together. Through Tom’s stories, readers can see the love and dedication necessary for this group of kids to ban together through all their crazy adventures and terrifyingly nightmarish experiences. With the help of her psychiatrist, Tom weaves the tale of their childhood up through the present, trying to piece together the broken bits of their shattered past and unveil their family demons.Īlthough the relationships with their parents are filled with strife, the ties between Tom and his siblings are so heartbreaking and real. That darkness manifests for Tom when he discovers his twin sister has been admitted to a psychiatric hospital in New York. But that facade of normalcy buries years worth of neglect, violence, and loss. I had the pleasure of playing an early beta build of Weaving Tides last year, and I knew within moments it’d be something special. He was a good student and star football player who grew into a caring coach, dedicated teacher, and loving husband. Tom Wingo hasn’t had the most normal family upbringing. Weaving Tides is an isometric singleplayer adventure game for PC/Mac set in a completely woven world. I wasn’t sure exactly what to think of this story at first, but it turned out to be a dramatic family epic filled with poetry, horror, and beauty.
